Cars, Canines, and Community - A Look Back at Our Car Show and Dog Day Celebrations

Our recent Dog Day event was a tail-wagging success and the perfect warm-up for International Dog Day on August 26.

We had a fantastic turnout, with our furry friends stealing the show at the Bark & Brunch, where tasty treats had both dogs and their humans drooling. The Fur & Flair fashion contest featured pooches strutting their stuff and showing off their wag-worthy wardrobes. The photo booth captured plenty of adorable moments, and the marketplace was buzzing with excitement. Dog lovers had a great time mingling at our social mixer, making it a day full of fun, fur, and new friendships!

If you thought thunder only came from the sky, think again—the Ford Thunderbird show proved that it can come from an engine, too!

The "All Fords" show was a roaring success, drawing a fantastic crowd of car enthusiasts and community members! With an impressive variety of Fords on display—including Thunderbirds, Lincolns, Galaxies, Comets, Falcons, Model A's and T's, as well as Customs, Fairlanes, Mercuries, Meteors, Marauders, and Mustangs of all years and body styles—there was something for everyone to enjoy.

Seed Library

Braeside is full of green thumbs, and we’re excited to announce the start of our community seed bank! A seed bank is a collection of seeds that community members can borrow from and contribute to, fostering local gardening and biodiversity. By sharing seeds, we can help each other grow more of what thrives in our climate. We’ve even reached out to surrounding communities to see if their residents would like to get involved.

While planting our new garden beds has been pushed to the next growing season due to water restrictions, that hasn’t stopped us from planning! A huge thank you to Bartlett Tree Services for their generous donation of mulch, which will help us prepare the beds for future planting. If you have any perennials you’re able to donate for our garden beds, we’d love to add them to the mix!

Whether you're a seasoned gardener or just getting started, we invite you to join in by borrowing seeds or donating from your harvests. We hope to host an event in late September/early October.

Volunteer Appreciation: The Dynamic Duo Of Books

Marilyn & Janice - Keeping Braeside Reading!
Marilyn & Janice - Keeping Braeside Reading!

As summer fades and we swap our swimsuits for sweaters, we can't help but reminisce about those laid-back days spent with a good book. But just because the season is changing doesn’t mean the reading has to stop—especially not for two of our superstar Braeside volunteers. Marilyn and Janice have been the heart and soul of our beloved Book Nook for years, keeping it well-stocked and ready for fellow book lovers.

Marilyn has been curating the shelves for six years, while Janice is a seasoned pro with a whopping decade of dedication under her belt! These two are true Braeside gems, having raised their families here since the 1980s and continuing to make our community brighter every day.

We can't thank them enough for their passion, time, and all the literary love they've poured into the Book Nook.

The Book Nook is open for donations or browsing Tuesday to Thursday from 10 am to 3 pm. There's something for everyone.

Our volunteers are the backbone of everything we do.

By getting involved, you're not just contributing time; you're weaving yourself into the fabric of our community, creating bonds, and making Braeside an even brighter place to live. Whether you have an hour to spare or are looking for a regular commitment, there's a place for you in our volunteer family. Please fill out the volunteer form to get the process started!

Come Hang Out and Make a Difference: Join the Braeside Youth Group!

Keeping our youth engaged is vital to building a vibrant and connected community. When young people are involved in activities like drop-in soccer or lending a hand with community projects, they develop a sense of belonging and pride in their neighborhood. These opportunities not only foster teamwork and leadership skills but also create lasting connections with peers and mentors. By offering a variety of activities and encouraging participation, we help our youth discover their interests, stay active, and feel valued. Interested in learning more? Interested in Getting involved? We're looking for a couple of Board positions (Secretary & Facilities). Contact our President, Jenny Mae to have a chat! president@braesideyyc.ca
