Cultivating a Bright Future for our Community

The clock is ticking! The survey deadline was extended but it won't be again! It remains open until end of day today, July 1st! (you'll see June 30th as the final date on social media but it won't be officially offline until tomorrow!). Now's your last chance if you haven't completed it yet.

We want to know what's important to you and your family. Share your vision for Braeside's future. Imagine the impact we can make together on our facilities, programs, and green spaces.

Complete the survey here.

Membership Has Its Perks!

Retaining your Braeside Community Association membership comes with some tasty benefits! All members receive 10% off their first order at the local gem, Hungry Thaiger (they operate a pick-up only business out of the Oakridge Community Association). They serve up incredibly delicious dishes that are sure to satiate your tastebuds! Members also receive 10% off summer camps and all workshops offered by Mini Titans in 2024/2025. And, you'll keep receiving this newsletter of course! Renew your membership now to take advantage of these new perks.

Celebrate Stampede With Us

This year’s Stampede event is riding into town on Saturday, July 6th, from 12-4pm. Get ready for Aaron the DJ & a surprise live musical guest (it's so surprise, we don't event know who it is yet!), line dancing lessons, an incredible lunch, a bouncy castle, games & temporary tattoos! Get your tickets here if you haven't already.

We also need a crew of volunteers to make this annual event a success. If you can lend a hand, please reach out to Gail at operations@braesideyyc.ca.

But wait, there's more! Why should we be the only few to have all the fun? Let's get the whole neighborhood on board! We're on a membership drive, so don't be surprised if we show up at your door! Our new community outreach program is kicking off, and we're looking for enthusiastic folks to join us in door-knocking and spreading the word.

So, step up, get involved, and let's make Braeside buzz. Gail can help get you started: operations@braesideyyc.ca

Behind the Scenes: Meet Braeside’s Volunteers

Our community thrives because of amazing volunteers like Colleen Brooks.

Colleen's the kind of person who doesn't just talk the talk; she walks the walk. You’ll find her spreading cheer with the Brae-dy Bunch playgroup, sharing the goodness with Good Food Boxes, or adding a dash of excitement to our casino nights. Her philosophy is simple: "Find what you love; if it doesn't exist, try to make it happen."

Colleen's go-getter attitude and sunny outlook remind us that we all have the power to make Braeside not just a place to live, but a place to love.

So, hats off to Colleen! When we work together, we can make Braeside an even better place for everyone.

Fresh Food Fridays: Kids & Youth Special

Fresh Food Fridays have quickly become the go-to spot for picking up tasty treats right within walking distance from your front door. Every Friday until Sept 27 from 3-7pm, it's the perfect place to find something special or stock up on groceries for the week.

This week we're partnering with Mighty Titans, and guess what? The kids get to make the rules! I hear rumors it might be all candy trucks, but you’ll have to come down and see for yourself. If your kids would like to get involved, email info@minititans.ca.

If you can't be bothered to cook at the end of the week and want a convenient bite, there's always be onsite food trucks. These change weekly so there's always something different to tuck into. This week it's Panini Boy!

Interested in showcasing your local business at the market? Reach out to Gail for an application: operations@braesideyyc.ca

Supporting Youth & Teens in the Community

In June, the BCA hosted a conversation with eight of our Braeside teens. We heard that there's a desire for sporting activities & meeting new people - and maybe even an organized event next year! We are going to get a few smaller events organized throughout the summer. If your teen aged 12-18 would like to be on the distribution list, please email president@braesideyyc.ca!

City of Calgary Community Clean-up:

This year we are partnering with the Cedarbrae Community Association and the Oakridge Community Association on August 24th for our community clean-up. There will be more details on timing and location in the August edition.

Visit the City of Calgary to start planning for what you can drop off!

Playgroup Pals: Tired of your kids bouncing off the walls at home? Let them burn off that endless energy at our playgroup, while you enjoy some adult conversation and a cup of sanity.

Every Wednesday families with young children can join host Julie Voth & Colleen Brooks at the Community Centre between 12:30-2pm. Reach out and register: playgroup@braesideyyc.ca Free for BCA members, or drop-in fee: $5/family.

Can you donate toys that make kids giggle instead of scream? Every little bit helps us turn mayhem into magic! Email us if you'd like to donate!

Harvest the Savings, Savor the Flavor: Sign up for a monthly Good Food Box and enjoy your affordable fruit and veg, all at a price that's as sweet as the produce inside. For July orders, email gfb@braesideyyc.ca. Small box (20-25lbs) $30, Medium box (25-30lbs) $35, Large box (35-40lbs) $40

Garden Gossip: If you are planning to landscape your yard and have extra plants or shrubs to spare, please let us know by emailing garden@braesideyyc.ca.

Braeside Before & After School Care: School’s out, and now you're wondering what to do with all those leftover craft supplies. Don’t let them collect dust! Braeside Before and After School Care is looking for donations:

Creative art materials: Paper, paints, markers, tape, envelopes, chalk, glitter (we’ll take anything!)

Sports equipment: Skipping ropes, frisbees, badminton equipment, lacrosse sticks, water guns

Loose Parts Materials: Buckets, tubs, corks, bottle caps, snow shovels, pestle and mortars, wooden spoons, milk crates, laundry baskets

Donations can be dropped off at the community centre or the Before and After School Care program.
