Welcome to 2025, where we all write "2024" on documents for at least the next three weeks! ;) But hey, new year, new us… right? Let’s kick off January with a fresh start, big plans and hopefully no broken resolutions (we’re looking at you, gym memberships!).
*Have a look at the New Year's message from Jenny Mae on Facebook*
This year is extra special for Braeside because we’re turning 60! That’s right, our community has been around since 1965, back when bell-bottoms and vinyl records were all the rage. To celebrate this milestone, we’re putting together a Social History Project to capture the incredible stories and memories that make Braeside the welcoming place it is today.
We’re looking for old photos, stories, or even just a chat with long-time residents who’ve seen our neighbourhood grow and change over the years. Got a treasure trove of memories in your attic or a great story to share? We’d love to hear from you. Send us a note at braesidebeacon@braesideyyc.ca and let’s make history together!
Of course, we’re not just looking back this year; we’ve got plenty of exciting plans for 2025! From updates to our community center (new paint and fresh floors, anyone?) to events all year long. Braeside is where it’s at.
First up, don’t miss our Annual General Meeting — it’s your opportunity to vote for the 2025 board, get a sneak peak at what’s coming up and enjoy some entertainment and engaging conversation. Spoiler: it’s way more fun than it sounds, and there’s always food! Plus, we’re always looking for volunteers to bring fresh ideas and energy to our community efforts — this could be your chance to connect, chat and discover how you can get involved.
And if your New Year’s resolution involves a little more self-care, yoga classes are starting soon right here in Braeside! Perfect for beginners, experts, or anyone who just needs an hour of calm amid the chaos. Take advantage of special pricing available until January 2nd!! Register here.
Other things you need to know...
Speaking of fresh starts, don’t forget to get your order in for the Good Food Box — a great way to stock up on affordable, fresh produce for you and your family. It’s healthy eating made easy and it’s another way we’re working to support our community.
The wonderful Karen, one of our team members, is deeply passionate about expanding seniors programming in Braeside but we need your input to make it happen. We’re listening and want to hear your ideas: what programs, activities or support help us understand what you would like to see. Please fill out this survey and together we can create something truly special for our seniors.
Visit DMap for the latest updates to the proposed development on Bradbury Drive. A Facebook page dedicated to information sharing in relation to developments in Braeside, hosted by several residents, can be found here.
Whether you’re starting 2025 with ambitious goals or just trying to survive until the sun sets after 5 PM again, remember: you belong in Braeside. Together, we’ll make this a year to remember — both for the history books and for the memories we create this year. Whether you’re a lifelong Braesider or the newest face on the block, remember: this is your community!
Cheers to a fantastic 2025! Now let’s party like it’s 1965! 🎉
In our last holiday message, we forgot to honour one of our past board members. We didn't forget about you Lindsey! This one's for you!
So here's to Lindsey, with her boundless flair,
The one who juggled it all - with skill and care.
As VP & Communicator, she led the way,
Bringing ideas to life, in every single way!
Lindsey brought more than just her role,
she brought heart, her family & a whole lot of soul!
Though she's left the board, we know this much -
Braeside is better, thanks to her touch!
